Mica Coming Out Your Ears

Materials: acrylic paint, oil paint markers, mica from Mother Earth

My number one goal was to think as little as possible and just be inspired by my surrounding at Cal-Wood for art camp. I was drawn to the intricate geometry and pattern on hikes, and this flower in particular. In the studio I would listen to music and paint for hours which was something I’ve never gifted myself before. And the mica…I had no idea what all the other artists were talking about when they were talking about mica, and finding it, and using it in their work. Then, a group of us went on a hike called Mica Mine, and I finally understood. The small slivers of shiny material from rock that glistened from the suns reflection. It became the theme of the camp so I obviously had to put some pieces in my painting and name the work appropriately.

Command S

Materials: acrylic paint, oil paint markers

My number one goal was to think as little as possible and just be inspired by my surroundings at Cal-Wood for art camp. I was drawn to the intricate geometry, texture, and pattern on hikes. This tree stump that had some remnants of mosaic tile on it caught my attention. I loved the radial lines on the piece of wood and how the tile was placed on the wood. I filled the background with a plant that was very abundant throughout the woods, and I liked the uniformity in the 5 green leaves. I decided to change the tile to broken keys from a computer. I have been illustrating digitally so much more than painting lately. This was my way of letting go of the pixels, and embracing the paint. The phone and cord are more in it for movement and composition, but it still goes along with the theme of letting go of my digital illustration life for the time being. I chose to call this Command S because I want to save what I learned both internally and skill wise from this experience for all future creations.

I Fucking Love Visitor Centers

An ink drawing I did on my vacation in Lake Tahoe. My friend was so excited to stop at the visitor center, and I thought her quote was very positive and worth illustrating.

In the drawing are 3 things we both appreciated about Lake Tahoe.

1. Taylor Creek Visitor Center

2. Sugar Pine Trees

3. Mount Tallac

Time

An ink drawing of my Casio watch. I drew the wristband with the infinity illusion because time and infinity pique my curiosity.
